BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.41 percent at 3,270.44 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.03 percent higher at 13,015.19 points.
The combined turnover of the two bourses expanded to 753.6 billion yuan (about 111.36 billion U.S. dollars) from 684.3 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Losers outnumbered gainers by 696 to 683 on the Shanghai bourse, while Shenzhen saw more gainers than losers by 1,124 to 1042.
Shares in the automobile and photoresist industries outperformed the market, with Great Wall Motor Company Limited surging by 5.1 percent to close at 19.15 yuan.
Shares in liquor and tourism sectors led losses.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.10 percent to close at 2,557.32 points Thursday.
