The Miami Marlins reached a one-year deal with utilityman Jon Berti to avoid arbitration.
The Marlins have a team option for 2024. The deal is worth a reported $2.125 guaranteed, $2.1 million in 2023 and a $25,000 buyout on 2024, if the Marlins decline the option. Berti will make at least $3.5 million in 2024 if the option is picked up.
The sides struck a deal ahead of Berti's arbitration hearing Monday. Berti had asked for $2.3 million while the Marlins submitted $1.9 million.
Berti, 33, batted .240 with 17 doubles and 28 RBIs while leading the major leagues with 41 stolen bases in 2022.
Berti has played all over the diamond save for first base and catcher. He's appeared in 108 games at third base, 99 at second and 75 in the outfield.
He's a career .244 hitter with 16 home runs and 157 runs over five seasons, the last four in Miami.
